Behind the scenes of moviemaking

Everything Leads to You, Speak, 2015
Everything Leads to You is a novel written by Nina LaCour      [+ info] and published by Speak in 2014. The story is divided into 3 parts: the first one is called The Vastness, the second one The Love and the last one The Apartment.

The book is told by Emi, the main character who has an older brother that works on the sets of movies. He helps her get a job as a set designer even though she’s quite young. She now works as an intern and she would like to move up in the business because set designing is her passion.

The story begins when one summer her brother has to travel for professional reasons and he allows her to spend that summer living in his apartment if she fulfills his only condition: something epic has to happen there while he’s gone. Which works out perfectly because she’s just broken up with her girlfriend and she needs something that helps her move on. Furthermore, she’s always loved her brother’s apartment. The only problem is that she can’t think of anything great she could do while he’s working abroad so she can stay there.

One day, when she’s at an estate sale of a Hollywood film legend with her best friend Charlotte, she finds a mysterious letter and, with Charlotte’s help, she tries to find out who this letter was destined to so she could give it to her.

One of the things I liked the most was reading from Emi’s voice because you could tell how passionate she is about her job and she is an awesome narrator and a great character. But she’s not the only amazing character, I really liked all of the characters. I think all of them are really important in the story development and each one brings something to the story.

So I really recommend reading this book to everyone but in particular to those who are interested in what goes on behind the scenes of moviemaking, especially in the pre-production.
